About Steam Market
The Steam Community Market is Valve’s own marketplace for CS2 items and the reference price for everything else on this site. It has run since 2003, it is operated by Valve Corporation out of Bellevue, and trades take place entirely inside Steam — no third-party site ever needs access to your account. On safety and liquidity, nothing else here competes.
The cost is the 15% combined fee, the highest in this directory, and the fact that you cannot take the money out. Sale proceeds become Steam Wallet credit, spendable only on Valve’s store. That restriction is also why Steam prices run above third-party listings: a buyer spending trapped wallet credit values it below cash, so sellers price accordingly.
The practical split is simple. If you are buying and want zero counterparty risk, Steam is the safe default and you pay for it. If you are selling and want actual money, nearly every marketplace in this directory nets you more — which is the comparison the rest of these pages exist to make.
Pros
- The safest place to trade — no third party ever touches your account
- Deepest liquidity in CS2: almost everything is available, almost always
- Trades complete inside Steam with no external site or login
- Backed by Valve, running continuously since 2003
Cons
- A 15% combined fee, the highest in this directory
- You cannot withdraw cash — proceeds are Steam Wallet credit only
- Listed prices run well above third-party markets because that credit is trapped
- The rarest items are frequently out of stock entirely
