CS2 market index history
The typical item’s price since Dec 23, 2025, the first day of our daily price history (= 1000).
Prices from 8 Apr to 8 Jul 2026 were rebuilt from market data after a recording gap rather than observed on the day.
Market cap history
Nightly snapshots of the tracked cap, recorded since Oct 29, 2026. Unlike the price-only changes above, these also move when the set of copies we can see changes (items traded into private or unscanned inventories drop out). Nothing before the first snapshot is shown.

Market cap or price index?
A market cap is how many items exist times what each is worth. Adding up one price per item instead gives a price index: our one-of-each basket of 24,832 items comes to $2.8M, because it counts a $3 sticker and a $3,000 knife once each, however many copies exist. Both are useful, but only the first is a market cap.
We count copies: every item we have seen in the Steam inventories SteamAnalyst scans, valued at the price on its skin page. It is a measured floor, not an estimate of every copy in existence.
Methodology
- Price: the SteamAnalyst reference price, built from live listings across the markets we track and recorded once a day. The same number every skin page shows.
- Tracked market cap: distinct items (asset IDs) seen in scanned inventories × price. Items with no price today, or a price over 3× off their own 30-day median, are left out.
- Changes: today’s copies at the price on the nearest day on or before 1, 7 and 30 days ago. We do not store past supply, so these are price moves only. The cap chart uses only the nightly snapshots recorded since Oct 29, 2026.
- Market index: the median of each item’s price relative to Dec 23, 2025, × 1000. Median, so a few expensive or mispriced items cannot move it. Group indexes need at least 20 items.
- Breadth: index-basket items priced on both of the last two days; moves within ±0.5% are flat. It differs from the Market Trends breadth, which only counts skins over $5 and confirms each move.
- Listed value: live listings (updated within 24 hours) × price. Aggregators, mirror feeds and markets without stock counts are left out.
- Steam buy orders: Steam’s own order depth for each item, each step at its own bid. Orders below the depth Steam shows are not added.
- Sales: completed CSFloat sales on the items we refresh nightly; the latest day that has fully reported.

Questions
What is the CS2 market cap?
SteamAnalyst's tracked CS2 market cap is $193.9M as of Nov 1, 2026: 6,246,981 items we have seen in 81,790 scanned Steam inventories, across 26,146 item types, each valued at the price shown on its skin page. It covers the items we track, not every copy in existence, so the whole CS2 economy is larger.
How is this different from a "price index" total?
Adding up one price per item gives a price index, not a market cap: it counts a $3 sticker and a $3,000 knife once each, whatever their supply. Our one-of-each basket is $2.8M over 24,832 items. The market cap multiplies each price by how many copies exist in the inventories we scan, which is why it is far larger.
What is the CS2 market index?
The median price change of 24,832 items we price daily, set to 1000 on Dec 23, 2025. On Nov 1, 2026 it stood at 678.6, so the typical item is −32.1% since then. A median is used so a few very expensive items cannot move the whole line.
Where do the prices come from?
Every price is the SteamAnalyst reference price, the one each skin page shows, built from live listings across the markets we track and recorded once a day. The market cap, the index, the breadth and the movers all read that one series.
Why do the 24h, 7d and 30d changes not include new supply?
We store each day's prices but not each day's supply, so the change figures apply today's tracked holdings to each earlier day's prices: they show price moves only. Real nightly snapshots of the cap start Oct 29, 2026; the market cap chart shows only those, and they also move when the set of copies we can see changes.
What is listed market value?
Everything for sale right now: $741.5M across 29 markets, each listing valued at the skin-page price. Aggregators and mirror feeds of another market are left out so a copy is not counted twice, and so are markets that do not report stock counts.
How much money is in Steam buy orders?
About $82.5M on the order depth Steam shows, across 152,515,579 open buy orders. Each order is valued at its own bid price. Multiplying the highest bid by every order on the book gives a much larger figure, but most orders sit well below the top bid.
How often is this page updated?
Prices and the index are recorded once a day; the page itself is rebuilt every few minutes, so live listing and buy-order figures stay current. Each section names the day its numbers are from.
