CS2 now has pets. The Rush Hour update (22 September 2026) added the 3v3 Rush mode, a Premier map-pick change and a new music kit. What it didn't announce is a whole pet system: a chicken you hatch from an egg, feed, name and take photos with.

🥚 How to get an egg

A Chicken Egg is offered in the Weekly Care Package, the reward you pick from on your first rank-up of the week. Choose it and the egg lands in the new pet slot of your loadout.
- One pet per account. While you own a pet, the game won't let you take another egg.
- No trading. The pet item is marked "cannot trade", so you can't buy an egg or a grown hen from another player or a marketplace.
- Your egg shows a hatch date in the HatchBook ("Hatches <day>").
🌾 Feeding

Chicken Feed ("Feed your pet to keep it around.") also comes from Weekly Care Packages. Once you have a pet, the rank-up tooltip reminds you: "Get feed for your pet the next time you rank up!"
- When food is running low, the pet panel shows a warning: "Your pet is running low on food. Grab more feed from a Weekly Care Package soon."
- Growth depends on feed. The game tracks when the food runs out against when the next growth stage is due, and flags the pet as needing food if the food would run out first.
- If the food runs out, the pet leaves for good. An egg that runs out never hatches.
🐣 Egg to hen: the four stages
The game names four stages, and a message pops up each time your pet moves up one.

| Stage | What changes |
|---|---|
| 1. Egg | Sits in your pet slot until its hatch date. Keep it fed. "Look! Your egg is hatching! Time to meet your chick." |
| 2. Chick | Every egg hatches into the same chick. You can now name it, take photos and start its HatchBook. |
| 3. Pullet | "Growing fast, colors coming in, and cleared to deploy with you." Its breed and colours show, and it can come with you onto maps. |
| 4. Hen | "Fully grown and fully feathered!" The photo booth poses that need an older pet open up as it grows. |
Naming: from the chick stage on, you can name your pet once per stage. The name shows above it in-game as <owner>'s "<name>".
🐓 Breeds
The game has five pet definitions: the egg, the chick and three adult breeds, each with its own model.
CatalanaThe classic CS chicken model. 13 colours.
SilkieThe fluffy breed, feathered all the way down. 9 colours.
PolishThe one with the big feathered crest. 12 colours.Which breed and colour your chick grows into is decided when it becomes a pullet. You can't pick it, and the item files don't list colour odds. Some sites publish colour percentages, but those are estimates, not numbers Valve has published.
See every stage in 3D
These are the game's own models and animations, from the egg to each adult breed. Drag to turn them, pick an animation to see the tricks and moods your pet can show, and try on the photo booth hats. Pullets and hens come in every colour their breed can roll, and get a body shape: roll a new one to see how much two chickens of the same breed can differ.

🎨 All 34 chicken colours
Each breed has a list of colours the game picks from when your chick becomes a pullet: Catalana 13, Silkie 9, Polish 12, so 34 in all. Three colours (Catalana Tan, Silkie White and Polish Brown) appear on that list twice, which most likely makes them the common ones. Valve hasn't published odds.
Another 7 colours ship in the game files but aren't on any breed's list, so no chicken can grow into them yet. They're shown at the end of each breed, marked "Not in game yet", in case a later update adds them.

🧬 Body shape: every chicken is unique
Colour isn't the only thing that differs between two chickens of the same breed. Each adult model in the game files comes with a set of body-shape traits, and every pet gets its own mix of them, rolled from a hidden number (a seed) tied to that pet. Two Tan Catalanas can stand side by side and still look like different birds.
The traits, in plain words:
- Fatness: how round the body and hips are.
- Tail: how big the tail feathers are.
- Legs: how long the legs are, so how tall the bird stands.
- Wing size and wing width: how long the wings are, and how far they stick out from the body.
- Neck: how long the neck is.
- Head: how big the head is.
- Wattle: how far the red flaps under the beak hang down.
- Comb (front and back): how tall the red crest on top is. Catalana only: the Silkie and Polish models have no comb trait.
Each trait is a slider between a smallest and a largest version of that body part, which the model stores as two poses. The seed picks a point on each slider, and the game blends those poses into the bird, so the shape comes along to every animation.
The range each slider can land in depends on the stage. The files have one set of ranges for a pullet and one for a hen (0% is the smallest version of the trait, 100% the largest):
| Trait | Pullet | Hen |
|---|---|---|
| Fatness | 0–50% | 0–100% |
| Tail | 0–50% | 0–100% |
| Legs | 50–100% | 0–100% |
| Wing size | 0–100% | 0–100% |
| Wing width | 0–100% | 0–100% |
| Neck | 0–100% | 0–100% |
| Head | 70–80% | 20–60% |
| Comb (Catalana) | 0–20% | 0–100% |
| Wattle | 0–20% | 0–100% |
So a pullet is built like a youngster: slim, short-tailed, long-legged, with a big head and barely any comb or wattle. A hen can land anywhere from skinny to round, and its head is smaller in proportion. The comb is rolled once and then split: the front and back each get between 80% and 120% of that roll, so the two halves of a comb are never quite the same height.
Colour varies too. The same seed also drives a few colour settings on top of your chicken's colour: hue, saturation, brightness, the sheen of iridescent feathers, and on some colours where the face details sit. How far each one can move is set per colour in its material. On some colours it's a gentle shift; on others (Catalana Dark Orange, Polish Pink, Silkie Leopard and Silkie Red among them) the hue can swing all the way round the colour wheel, so two chickens with the same colour name can look quite different.
The game doesn't show you the seed or the trait values, and the files only set the ranges above: there are no named or special shapes. Try it in the 3D viewer above: pick Pullet or Hen and press Random body shape.
📸 Photo booth & HatchBook
The pet comes with a photo booth and a scrapbook, the HatchBook ("The life and times of <your pet>"). Photos you take go into a library, and you drag them into the book's Chick, Pullet and Hen chapters.
- Poses with your agent: Solo, Shoulder, Take the Knee, Hawk, Gaze, Big Hug, Overhead, Head, Bird in Hand, Finger, Protect. Some need an older pet ("Not old enough for this dangerous pose."), and some get too big for a small chick ("Got too big for this pose").
- Hats: Helmet, Armor Helmet, Alien, Banana, Glasses, Nose Glasses, Party Hat, Sprout, Top Hat, Wizard Hat.
- Actions and effects: Sit, Panic, Wag, Dance, Jump, Kick, Fly, plus Explosion, Lightning, Beam, Laser, Fire, Sparks, Confetti, Bubbles and Feathers.
- Filters, borders and stickers: eight filters (Black and White, Sepia, Psychedelic and more), plus stickers from your inventory.
- Stages: Picnic and Photo Studio, plus maps you unlock by finishing a match there on official servers. Only older pets can visit maps.
🕊️ When your pet leaves
There are two ways it ends:
- Old age. "Your pet has reached the end of a long, loud life." The game adds that you can revisit your times together from your profile card, so the HatchBook stays.
- No food. "Your pet has accepted a position elsewhere. The offer included meals." For an egg: "Your egg has been moved to a warmer nest."
❓ FAQ
How do I get a pet chicken in CS2?
A Chicken Egg is offered through the Weekly Care Package you get on rank-up. Claim it, keep it fed, and it hatches into a chick.
Can I trade or sell a CS2 pet?
No. The pet item is flagged "cannot trade" in the game files, so there is no market price for eggs, chicks or hens. The only way to have one is to raise it.
How many pets can I have?
One. The game refuses an egg offer while you already own a pet.
What happens if I stop feeding my chicken?
It leaves for good. An egg that runs out of feed never hatches. Feed comes from Weekly Care Packages, and the game warns you when your pet is running low.
Does a CS2 chicken live forever?
No. A hen reaches the end of its life and leaves. Its HatchBook of photos stays on your profile card.
What breeds of chicken are there?
Three adult breeds: Catalana, Silkie and Polish. Every egg hatches into the same chick; breed and colour show once it grows into a pullet.
